To outfit the boat, I just put the hip pads in that were provided. I also made sure all the screws were tight. After paddling the boat a little, I moved the seat forward. I had plenty of foot room, wearing big soled NRS booties.
Overall, in my opinion, the large Burn is a great boat. It has great speed and tracks well. The boat is easy to control. I’ve worked out of the boat for kayak clinics and videoboating. It was great for those types of situations. I could carry a lot of gear and the boat is very comfortable for long days on the river. The boat was also good for the creeks. I paddled it on some of the local creeks and thought the boat performed well on both low volume and high volume type water. I surfed in the Burn a little as well. The flat hull is good for flat spins on fast waves. I like that I can take this boat on the creek, as well as the surf. It’s a great all around boat. When I first tried the Burn, I thought it was a little edgy. It was a new boat, and the edges were sharp. After paddling it for a while, boofing the edges off, it didn’t seem as edgy. Not to say sharp edges are bad, the Burn peels in and out of eddys great. But, in situations where I was on a boil line, I would sometimes catch an edge. On a final note, the drain plug lip wore off. The drain plug was made in the shape of a pyranha, but it was flimsy. In less than two weeks, the lip wore off and I had no drain plug, fortunately they are now using a new drain plug with the Connect 30 outfitting.
