If you have ever gone kayaking by yourself because you could not find anyone else to go, had to hike into or out of a river for access, driven multiple hours for a weekend of kayaking, have been hitting up your local run, or have just spent time in the pool learning your roll, you know what Ground Roots is; you are Ground Roots. Ground Roots is about kayaking for the right reasons; everyone has there own reasons for paddling, being that it is just fun is the base, the common link between all paddlers.

Ground Roots exemplifies some of the best attributes of kayaking’s culture, underground and grassroots. Kayaking is fully focused on the individual. Whether that individual’s satisfaction comes from being part of a team expedition, creeking, being active in a kayaking club, playboating, or teaching kayaking, it is all about that individual’s satisfaction. This focus on the individual combined with the nature of the majority of place we paddle, being that they are mostly out of the public eye and remote, lends kayaking to be an underground and grassroots sport/lifestyle. This is Ground Roots; it is not worrying over whether someone is impressed by your paddling, if you are in the limelight, or any other ego trips that may come. It is about focusing on the fun you have kayaking and the realization that no one needs to understand or see that but you-underground- and recognizing that common link you have with every other paddler, whether they be an expert kayaker or just learning to roll, everyone’s main reason for paddling is that it is just fun. With every kayaker linked together by a common bond and the focus on the individual, our sport is ultimately moved and changed by paddlers, not corporations-grassroots.

Ground Roots is the ethic and name of team Whitewater Warehouse. Our goal is not to promote one company over an other or even promote ourselves; it is to promote kayaking and provide a resource for other paddlers. Along with putting on and attending events, we will have unbiased gear reviews and trip updates. The Whitewater Warehouse Ground Roots team includes a range of people from professional kayakers to weekend warriors that paddle mostly around the Fayetteville, W.V. area and share that common Ground Roots bond.
