Pinch Creek, 03-02-2007
Spending the whole previous week on the Middle and Upper stretches of the Meadow River getting dialed into my new large Burn (which I am really starting to like the extra volume) I was able to get to the goods on Friday. Thursday night we got over an inch of rain in southern WV making Pinch Creek in Beckley come up to a great level. Pinch Creek is sweet; it is fairly steep, 250 fpm, and for the gradient is clean. The creek’s character consists of multiple big slides, ledges, a couple of 12’ boofs, and one and a half miles of hiking to get to the put in. The weather that day was excellent and we were all so excited that we thought we were walking towards the light of the put in, but it only turned out to be the shine off of Bernie’s bald head.

Once at the put in you start off with a 12’ falls

If you get on this creek, watch out for wood, one guy on our crew swam and we chased his boat down the whole creek, luckily just getting it to an eddy right before the confluence with Glade Creek. Pinch and Glade Creek are definitely gems, check them out!
