Although southern West Virginia's drought has seen some relief this fall, we have still had a few weeks in between rains to chase the water. Lance Reif and I spent the first week of November in the Southeast paddling the incredibly crowed (due to the race) Green and Cheoah rivers. Regardless of the crowd the Green was still worth the trip due to the Tuxedo Hydro station pumping out the highest level they have all summer. Trying to avoid the even larger crowds on the race day we decided to drive to the Cheoah after we met our buddies John and Jessica in Asheville. This is a interesting and dangerous river; it is not that difficult yet the abundance of trees everywhere in the riverbed made for a few nasty swims out of the group. If I go back to the Cheoah I would only do the last two miles because there aren't as many trees in the river there and that is where the majority of the large rapids are concentrated. Saturday night we headed back to the Green to hang out at the race p! arty. The party was held at the home of Woody Calloway (owner of Liquid Logic) which is right at the take out for the Green. The take out parking lot turned into a campground that night as there must have been one hundred or more people sleeping in it. Sunday we paddled the Upper Green into the Narrows; good lines by everyone. Monday morning we headed back up to West Virginia to wait on rain and paddle the Gauley. -Logan
