Wednesday Nite Paddle (5:15PM - 5:15PM)

Join in on what has become a tradition for Dayton’s paddlesports community, the Wednesday Nite Paddle down our local waterway, the Mad River. Enjoy the transition from an urban wilderness to the downtown Dayton skyline. We paddle approximately three miles of what is considered “moving water” from Eastwood MetroPark to the Keowee Street Bridge. This river trip generally takes 1 to 1 ˝ hours.

Shuttles leave from Whitewater Warehouse at 5:30 and 6:15 (depending on daylight); with a separate private boater shuttle leaving when full. Equipment and shuttle slots are available on a first come first serve basis. Dress to get wet, and be ready to have some Fun! Early in the season you can expect cooler water and air temperatures.

Note: This is not a guided river trip. New boaters may consider taking any of our three recreational kayaking classes prior to participating. The Basic Kayak Skills will get you started; Basic River Running will teach you to deal with moving currents and controlling your boat; and the Safety Skills class will teach you to deal with basic safety and self-rescue situations.

FRIDAY NITE KAYAK FISHING EVENT (6:00PM - 9:00PM)
You know how to fish… now try fishing from a kayak! Come to Eastwood Lake on Friday, July 11 and Friday, August 1 and fish out of some of the best kayak fishing boats on the market. Bring your gear and get ready for a fun, new and exciting experience on the water. For $10.00 we will provide the kayak, paddle and pfd. The event will run from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

KAYAK DEMO AT EASTWOOD METROPARK LAKE (6:00PM - 8:00PM)
This is an opportunity to try out kayaking on the lake with the Whitewater Warehouse. There will be a variety of different boats available for you to paddle and check out. If you are considering purchasing a kayak, this is a chance for you to paddle and compare performance characteristics. RIVER CLEAN UP & PADDLE (5:30PM - 8:30PM)
On Wednesday, July 16, we will hold a River Clean up and paddle on the Mad River. Each group will be given a designated area to clean up. Afterwards join us for a get together at Whitewater Warehouse for some dogs and drinks.

SAFETY SKILLS On The RIVER (5:30PM - 9:30PM)
What if I flip over in the river? This is a hands-on class that you will learn and practice boat rescue, self rescue, swimmer rescue, and how to use a throw rope. These are skills that should be practiced before you actually need them. For Whitewater and Recreational
Bring your boat, throw rope (if you have one), and come prepared to get wet. Meet at 5:30pm at Whitewater Warehouse.
A special price of $25 will be extended for this class. Pre-registration is required.

KAYAK BASICS (10:00AM - 12:30PM)
Get started with an advantage! This hands-on class will introduce you to the basic skills and information needed to begin kayaking in a safe and enjoyable way. During this two hour session you will become acquainted with the necessary equipment, learn the basic paddle strokes and concepts, along with a variety of safety topics. Participants should meet at Whitewater Warehouse at 10:00 a.m.; and the class will be held on the Eastwood MetroPark Lake from 10:30-12:30. Dress to get wet. Minimum of 3 participants required. Space is limited & reservations are required. Fee: $40, an additional $10 if you need equipment.

BASIC RIVER RUNNING (2:00PM - 4:30PM)
This is the most valuable class for the recreational boater to attend. Basic River Running will be moving water instruction that deals with controlling your kayak on the river. You will learn to perform a variety of maneuvers that will improve your paddling ability, promote confidence, and help you to identify and avoid hazards encountered on the river. The skills you learn during this class, you’ll use throughout your paddling career. Meet at Whitewater Warehouse at 2:00. The class will be held on the Mad River and runs from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Dress to get wet. Minimum of 3 participants required. Space is limited & reservations are required. Fee: $50, an additional $10 if you need equipment. Prerequisite: Kayak Basics or Equivalent.

KID’S CLUB KAYAKING (5:30PM - 5:30PM)
This class is for kids 8-13 years old and will provide an introduction to kayaking. There will be light instruction, coupled with games and activities for skill building. Adult must be present while the session is going on.

Fourth Annual Mayor Community Float With Mayor Rhine McLin (5:00PM - 5:00PM)

Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin will host her 4rd Annual Community Float down the Mad River on Thursday, July 24, as a way to promote the City of Dayton's many water recreational opportunities. mayor-float.jpgThis fun event is open to the public.

Participants will meet at Whitewater Warehouse, 104 Valley Street, between 5:00-7:00 p.m. and will be driven to Eastwood MetroPark where they will paddle 2 1/2 miles of river, concluding at Whitewater Warehouse with a social gathering. Cost will be $15.00 per person; or $5.00 if you bringing your own equipment. To make a reservation for this event please go to www.kayakdayton.com.

TOURING EVENT & DEMO DAY (5:00PM - 5:00PM)

Come to Eastwood MetroPark Lake on Tuesday, July 29 for a special Touring Event and Demo Day. We will have several of the manufacturer Reps on hand that day and will have both plastic and composite kayaks available for you to try out.

There will be mini clinics that you can sign up for to learn more about the sport. Following the demo we will have a get together at Whitewater Warehouse and will be showing Touring DVD's (at our outside venue). So bring a lawn chair.

Demo from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Party from 8:00-until

Cost: $5.00 per person
