Prerequisite:       See Note Below

Join in on what has become a tradition for Dayton's paddlesportsmayor float 08 jy pictures 020b.jpg community, the Wednesday Nite Paddle down our local waterway, the Mad River.  Enjoy the transition from an urban wilderness to the downtown Dayton skyline.  We paddle approximately three miles of what is considered "moving water" from Eastwood MetroPark to the Keowee Street Bridge.  This river trip generally takes 1 ¼ to 1 ½ hours.

Shuttles leave from Whitewater Warehouse at approximately 5:30 and 6:15; with a separate private boater shuttle leaving when full.  Equipment and shuttle slots are available on a first come first serve basis.  Dress to get wet, and be ready to have some Fun!

11th Annual Paddle In The Park (10:00AM - 4:00PM)

Paddle in the Park – 11th Annual Demo Day

Come one, come all… to the 11th Annual Paddle in the Park. This fun-filled event will be held on the Eastwood MetroPark Lake, on Saturday, June 5, from 10-4:00 p.m. The kayak Demo Days portion of the event offers the opportunity to try out a multitude of the newest kayaks on the market. Many kayak manufacturers will be represented including Pyranha, P&H, Venture Kayaks, Feel Free, Wilderness Systems, Dagger, Perception, Wave Sport, Jacksondemo days 2006 170-7096_img.jpg Kayak, Native Watercraft, and LiquidLogic.
In addition to kayaks we will have Stride Standup Paddle Boards available for you to try out. Werner Paddles will be on hand to answer your paddle questions. There will be recreational boats, fishing kayaks, plastic and high end composite touring boats, standup paddle boards, and of course whitewater boats. No paddling experience needed.
         
The fun begins at 10:00 a.m. For those new to kayaking there will be free classes available to help you get started and get comfortable in a boat.
        
Paddle in the Park is a partnership between Whitewater Warehouse, Great Miami Outfitters, the Dayton Canoe Club, Five Rivers Metro Parks, Five Rivers Outdoors, and the Miami Conservancy District (MCD). Learn to apply the techniques you learned in our Kayak Basics class! This is an extremely valuable class for the recreational boater to attend. Basic River Running is moving water instruction that deals with controlling your kayak on the river. You will learn to perform a variety of maneuvers that will improve your paddling ability, promote confidence, and help you to identify and avoid hazards encountered on the river. The skills you learn during this class, you’ll use throughout your paddling career.

Get started with an advantage! This hands-on class will introduce you to the basic skills and information needed to begin kayaking in a safe and enjoyable way. During this two hour session you will become acquainted with the necessary equipment, learn the basic paddle strokes and concepts, along with a variety of safety topics.
Participants should meet at Whitewater Warehouse at 5:30 p.m.; and the class will be held in the Eastwood Metroparks from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Dress to get wet. Minimum of 4 participants required. Space is limited & reservations are required. Fee: $50, includes equipment.

This is an opportunity to try out kayaking on the lake with Whitewater Warehouse. There will be a variety of different boats available for you to paddle and check out. If you are considering purchasing a kayak, this is a chance for you to paddle and compare performance characteristics. This paddle and demo day will be held at Eastwood Metropark Lake between 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Intro to Kayak Rolling is the first class that you’ll want to take when learning to roll a kayak. We will teach you the basic fundamentals that you’ll need to know before diving into the roll itself. This will provide you a good foundation to build upon. This session will be held at Eastwood MetroPark Lake from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Costs will be $35 per person. This is our Kayak Basics class for whitewater boaters, along with an overview of moving water skills. We will teach the strokes needed to move your kayak; then we will show you how to apply them in moving water during the second half of the class. This session will run from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Cost will be $70; plus an additional $10 for equipment if needed.

Learn the skill of kayak rolling; or fine tune an existing roll! Classes will be held at Eastwood MetroPark Lake on Friday, June 25 (late afternoon/evening).
