For those that do not know the history of the Green Boat, it was designed by Pat Keller for the 2006 Green Race in North Carolina.  The Prijon Tornado had previously been the boat of choice for the top racers on this ultra-classic southeastern steep creek; yet as with all old school boats there are only so many of them out there and their hulls are getting thinner every day.  This factor as well as the growing competiveness among racers led Liquid Logic, Wavesport, and Dagger to design boats specifically for this race; the Dagger Green Boat has won the Green Race the last three years as well as the 2008 Lord of the Fork (Russell Fork) and was the most common boat among the slalom category in the Upper Gauley 'Animal' race.  For a few weeks this Gauley Season I paddled the Green Boat while video boating; it was a blast.  I have always been a fan of paddling old school long boats, especially on rivers that are very familiar, in order to spice things up a bit.
This boat does exactly what it is designed to do, go fast; it cruises through flats and flies through rapids.  Its incredible resurfacing and hole punching ability is almost reminiscent to a Wave Hopper.  This combined with excellent boofing and tracking that, corny as is sounds, feels like it naturally goes where you want it to go, make for a super fast boat.  As far as maneuverability, it can be some what hard to turn at times, but for me that is the fun part behind it and is why paddling long boats make you an all around better paddler, you will hop back in your creek boat and feel like you can cartwheel it.  The Green Boat has a good initial stability and great secondary stability.  Another fantastic perk of the Green Boat as compared to paddling the old school long boats is the outfitting; it has Dagger's standard outfitting which feels solid.  Yet, I could never get the thigh braces to cup my thighs, instead they dug into the middle of them.  I doubt this problem would exist with a shorter paddler.
Whether steep creek or class II river this boat is a blast to catch eddies, ferry, race, do attainments, practice strokes, and paddle downstream.  If you are looking for a way to improve your skills on your home run when you feel like you can catch every eddy and do every ferry, paddle this boat, if you are looking to get a work out in by paddling fast or doing attainments, paddle this boat, or if you are just wanting to paddle downstream, paddle this boat and when you hop back into your creek boat or playboat you will notice that your skills have improved.
